We are proud to be able to offer three dimensional CAT scan imaging in our office utilizing the Scanora 3D from Soredex. This machine takes dental imaging and implant planning to the next level by combining real digital panoramic and Cone Beam 3D in one unit. Unique to the Scanora 3D is that three selectable 3D fields of view allow the examination area to be precisely selected, thus reducing patient radiation dose to an absolute minimum. Dose levels of the Scanora 3D are considerably lower than with medical CT imaging and carefully follow the ALARA principle x-ray dose. As low as reasonably achievable.

With this unique technology, Dr. Gouldin and Dr. Carlos can view the jawbone from various angles. It becomes easy to determine the height, width, and density of the bone, and the location of the mandibular nerve and the maxillary sinus. Implant simulations can be done on the computer, so the exact size and ideal location for the implant is known. Therefore, within minutes of the Scanora scan, our doctors can offer you an immediate virtual diagnosis and treatment plan all in one quick visit. When appropriate, the virtual surgical plan will be sent to another facility which creates an extremely accurate surgical guide for the doctor to use during the implant placement procedure. With this technology, then, the virtual plan created from the digital data can be transferred directly to the mouth.Drs. Additionally, most scans that are exposed in our office will be read by a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist. Any significant findings will be explained to you and sent to your restoring dentist, endodontist, orthodontist, or whomever is interested in the assessment, along with the 3-D data.

After reviewing the data, our doctors often have the patient view the virtual plan with them. Most patients are fascinated by the three dimensional views of their head and neck structures, and they come away with a better understanding of the nuances of the procedures to be performed.
